January 2011 Officer Update
Prepared by President Chelsey Kay Sleight
Your state officer team has been working very hard to accomplish the goals on this year's Program of Work that the state committee developed after last year's SLC. We focused our goals on increasing membership and our networks throughout the state. The year is about half over, and we have made some significant strides in accomplishing the tasks we set out to do. The following are updates on the individual goals contained in the Wyoming FBLA Program of Work.
Goal 1: Increase membership by 15 percent.
To accomplish this goal, a recruitment page was added to the website, where ideas and activities are listed. Be sure to check it out!
The state officers have been in contact with inactive and unchartered schools throughout the year. We are pleased to welcome South High School, who chartered their first chapter this year.
To encourage people to attend Fall Leadership Conference, we drew for door prizes and drawings at the end of the day. Five gift certificates were awarded to five different members. Additionally, all members who were paid national members were given a Wyoming FBLA pen.
As of December 7, our membership numbers are as follows:
|
Division |
Members |
|
16 FBLA Chapters |
402 |
|
2 Middle Level Chapters |
39 |
|
1 PBL Chapter |
7 |
|
Total: |
448 |
As you can see, while we are well on our way to achieving our goal; there is still plenty of work to be done! Don't forget that the dues deadline is January 31 in order to compete and state or run for state office.
Goal 2: Collect data to show improvement in communication between state officers and local chapters and among local chapters.
For this goal, we decided to create a monthly newsletter, which has been released in August and November; a new issue will be released in January. Send your local chapter news, shoutouts, and pictures to State Historian-Reporter at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by the 15th of every month. Current issues are available on the state website.
Additionally, each state officer will visit 3 chapter activities outside of their local chapter activities. Historian-Reporter Alexis Kidneigh visited Rocky Mountain High School’s officer induction, and Secretary-Treasurer Cody Bremer visited a chapter activity at Pine Bluffs. President Chelsey Sleight attended a chapter meeting at East High School. Contact information for officers is available on the state website if you are interested in having an officer attend one of your chapter activities!
Additionally, the officer team received forty stamps to use in correspondence with chapters and other FBLA contacts. All officers have used all 40 stamps already!
Goal 3: Increase involvement at state activities by tracking registration and attendance.
Our goal is to increase FLC and SLC attendance by 10 percent. We achieved this goal at Fall Conference with record attendance. We also re-established the LEADS local officer trainings, which were held in November in Buffalo, Lander, and Torrington. Winner’s Camps are still in the planning process; however, it is certain that they will be held in the spring after SLC.
Goal 4: Grow resources and improve Wyoming FBLA awareness by networking with business partners throughout the state.
This year, we plan to fully fund the trophies given as awards at SLC. This goal will primarily be worked on between now and SLC, and an update will be available later in the spring. At FLC we kicked off our partnership with the Wyoming March of Dimes; and on November 17, several chapters assisted the organization in raising awareness at the Frontier Mall in Cheyenne. March of Dimes materials have been sent to each chapter as well. At FLC, Keith Noble from the University of Wyoming College of Business presented workshops on the Code of the West ethics program, which enabled us continuing our partnership with the University of Wyoming College of Business.
The Wyoming Business Council will once again help us host the Winners' Camps throughout the state.
